FAQ & How to Play

Short answers to the questions we hear most. Still stuck? Head to Contact or ask in our Discord.

Getting started

What is Trivialism?

Trivialism is a free, cross-platform multiplayer trivia game. You can play live in your browser, in a Discord server through our bot, or inside Discord itself as an Activity. There are more than 43,000 questions across 80+ categories, written and reviewed by people rather than scraped from a textbook.

Is it really free?

Yes. The core game — hosting quizzes, joining games, the daily quiz, leaderboards, and the Discord bot — is free to play. We keep the lights on with optional ads and supporter perks; we do not sell your personal data.

Do I need an account to play?

No. You can jump into a game as a guest. Creating a free account is optional, but it saves your scores, unlocks achievements and leagues, lets you add friends, and keeps your stats in one place across web and Discord.

What devices and browsers work?

Any modern browser on desktop or mobile works — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. There is nothing to download for web play. Native iOS and Android apps are in development.

Playing a game

How do I host a quiz?

From the home page, choose "Host a Quiz". Pick your categories, difficulty, and game mode, then share the room link or code with your friends. Everyone who joins answers the same questions in real time, and scores update live.

How do I join a game?

If someone shares a room link, just open it. Otherwise choose "Join Game" and enter the room code they give you. You can play as a guest or sign in first to save the result.

What game modes are there?

Classic awards points by difficulty (100 for easy, 200 for medium, 300 for hard). Speed adds a time bonus, so answering faster scores more. Sudden Death gives a flat score per question and eliminates you on a wrong answer — the last player standing wins.

What is the Daily Quiz?

The Daily Quiz is a fresh set of questions everyone gets each day. It is a quick way to keep a streak going and compare your score against the rest of the community on the daily leaderboard.

What are minigames?

Minigames are bite-sized solo modes — like Fastest Finger, Category Streak, and Wager — for when you want a quick challenge on your own rather than a full hosted game.

Can I make my own quiz?

Yes. You can build a quiz by hand or use AI quiz generation to draft questions on any topic, then edit them before you play. Quizzes you create can be kept private or shared with friends.

Discord

How does Trivialism work on Discord?

You can add the Trivialism bot to your server to run trivia in a text channel, or launch Trivialism as a Discord Activity to play inside a voice channel with friends. Both use the same questions and scoring as the web game.

How do I link my Discord and web accounts?

In Discord, ask the bot for a link code — it generates a short 6-character code. Enter that code on the website while signed in, and your Discord identity is connected to your Trivialism account, so your stats and friends carry across both.

Will I get messages from the bot?

If your accounts are linked, the bot may send you a short recap after a game you played. You can turn these off any time in Settings → Notifications.

Accounts, privacy & ads

How do you handle my data?

We collect only what we need to run the game and your account. You can access, export, or delete your data at any time. See our Privacy Policy and Data Retention Policy for the full picture.

Do you show ads?

We may show ads on the web platform through Google AdSense to help fund the free game. Where required, advertising cookies are set only after you consent through our cookie banner, and you can opt out of personalised ads at any time. Our Cookie Policy explains exactly which cookies are involved.

Is Trivialism accessible?

Accessibility is a first-class goal. We build to WCAG 2.1 AA, support keyboard navigation and screen readers, and offer a reduced-motion mode. If you hit a barrier, email [email protected] and we will fix it.

A question looks wrong — what do I do?

Every question can be flagged in-game. Flags go to our review queue, where we verify the answer and correct or retire questions that do not hold up. Accuracy matters to us, so please do report anything that seems off.
