AI quiz generation: describe a topic, get a quiz you can actually play

Until now, putting a custom quiz on Trivialism meant writing every question yourself — question text, the right answer, three convincing wrong answers, repeat thirty times. People who powered through built some great rounds. Most people, understandably, did not power through.

So we shipped something better: AI quiz generation. Type a topic — "Ancient Rome", "The Office", "90s one-hit wonders", your weirdly specific hyperfixation — pick how many questions you want, and about ten seconds later you have a complete quiz with a share code.

How it works

  • Any topic, 1 to 50 questions. The generator writes the questions, the wrong answers, difficulty ratings, and a fun fact for each one, all in a single pass. Larger quizzes are generated in parallel so 50 questions takes barely longer than 10.
  • You get exactly what you asked for. If you ask for 50 questions, you get 50 — duplicates are detected and replaced automatically before the quiz is saved.
  • Public by default. Generated quizzes go straight into the Explore catalog so other players can find and play them. Prefer to keep one for your own game night? Flip it to private before you generate.
  • Spoiler-free, even for you. This is our favourite part: the preview shows you the questions but not the answers. Nobody — including the person who generated it — gets to peek. You make the quiz, then you get to play it blind like everyone else.

What happened to public custom quizzes?

Hand-written quizzes are still here, but they are now private to your account — build them in My Quizzes and share them with a code, same as before. The public catalog is moving to AI-generated quizzes, which gives us a consistent quality bar and a much faster path from "I want a quiz about X" to actually playing it. Existing public community quizzes stay right where they are.

The honest fine print

  • Five free generations per account. Generation costs us real money per quiz, so free accounts get five. We are watching how people use it before deciding what comes next — if you burn through five and want more, tell us in the Discord; that feedback directly shapes the plan.
  • AI writes the questions, so check the vibes. The model is instructed to stick to facts and it is right the overwhelming majority of the time, but no AI is perfect. If a question slips through with a wrong answer, flag it in-game and we will deal with it.
  • Logged-in players only. Quizzes need an owner, and the quota needs an account to live on.

Try it

Head to Generate a Quiz, type the most niche topic you can think of, and see what comes back. Then send the code to the one friend who claims to know everything about it.
